Our Historic Inn
Originally named the Bonnie View Inn, the Beaverkill Valley Inn was built in 1895 by Mr. and Mrs. J. Rankin Towse. Its design blends Homestead charm with American Foursquare style, hallmarks of Turn-of-the-Century Post-Victorian Domestic Architecture. A gracious wrap-around porch extends the full length of the building, inviting guests to slow down and soak in the beauty of the valley.
Inside, the living room and card room are warmed by original fireplaces, featuring hand-cut keystones and hand-carved oak mantles. Throughout the first floor, original wood trim remains perfectly preserved, offering a glimpse into the craftsmanship of its time. The dining room still reflects its original early-1900s character, while the lobby and grand stairway showcase ornate oak woodworking that has stood the test of time.
In the late 1800s and early 1900s, country inns and boarding houses flourished along the Beaverkill and across the countryside, offering a fresh-air escape for urban families. During this era, it was common for wives and children to spend their summers in the country, while husbands joined them on weekends. Today, the Beaverkill Valley Inn remains the only inn of its size, style, and era still welcoming guests in the region.
Fresh vegetables, farm milk, and wholesome home-cooked meals were among the many pleasures that drew families to the valley. Guests spent their days wading and fishing in the streams, walking scenic trails, picking berries on the mountainsides, haying, dancing, and enjoying the simple joys of country life. Many families returned summer after summer, creating lasting traditions.
Today, the Beaverkill Valley Inn stands as a beloved landmark, embodying the spirit of conservation and community that defines the valley. The Inn and its natural surroundings exist in harmony, each enhancing the beauty and traditions of the other.
We’re proud to continue this legacy, offering farm-to-table dining with locally sourced, seasonal produce and farm-raised meats. The Inn promotes a healthy, outdoor lifestyle, with activities including hiking, mountain biking, tennis, and fly fishing. Like generations before them, guests return year after year to reconnect with nature, savor good food, and reunite with old friends.
